Wallachian banners were initially recruited from Moldavia and Wallachia and similarly to Tatar cavalry, they included the largest proportion of non-noble foreigners in Polish service. Banners were commanded mostly by nobles (Wallachians, less frequently Poles) who served as rotamasters and lieutenants but there were commanders of non-noble origin. Wallachian cavalry was armed with sabers and bows and they also often used carbine and pistols. Generally speaking, the Wallachian cavalry did not wear armor but some officers might have worn it. Wallachian cavalry were used for skirmishes, reconnaissance and screening. They did not play a significant role in pitched battles.
