Starter Sets – Fire & Sword: Skirmishes and Faction Expansions
Want to start your adventure with Fire & Sword? Starter sets are the best way to jump into the game quickly and efficiently. Each starter includes a ready-to-play Skirmish—a small, fully functional army perfect for your first battles. You can start playing immediately and later expand your forces by purchasing a Skirmish Expansion. This way, you can seamlessly progress to a Regiment level—larger, more complex battles—or simply gain more tactical options for smaller engagements.
Each starter represents a separate faction—with a unique style, strengths, and weaknesses. It also saves time and money, as the sets contain all necessary components: models, unit cards, and army lists, so you don’t need to assemble anything yourself.
If you’re unsure where to start or curious about army compositions, be sure to check the official Army Builder for Fire & Sword!
What’s included in the starter sets?
In the sets available in this category, you’ll find models, banners, pikes/spears/lances, trays, and unit cards. These components allow you to build your army for both skirmish and regiment formats.
Available Factions Overview:
- Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth: Elite offensive cavalry formations such as Hussars and Cossack Cavalry
- Muscovite Tsardom: Focuses on large numbers of infantry and artillery, with diverse cavalry options
- Kingdom of Sweden: Well-trained regiments with a modern approach to warfare
- Ottoman Empire: Fast cavalry, exotic units, and very high morale
- Cossacks: Defensive army using terrain and wagons, specialists in harassing the enemy
- Crimean Khanate: Masters of maneuver, mounted archers, breaking enemy formations without direct engagement
- Transylvania: Large unit variety, using pikemen cavalry, mobile horse units, and ranged infantry
- Holy Roman Empire: Balanced in offense and defense with unique formations
- Kingdom of Denmark and Norway: Can use partisans for strong reconnaissance effects and cheaper national units
- Electorate of Brandenburg and Ducal Prussia: Defensive-oriented, leveraging ranged weapons and artillery superiority
- Mercenaries: Not a separate army but a pool of units available for hire by other factions
Whether you are a newcomer or a veteran wargamer, the Fire & Sword starter sets let you dive into 17th-century battles immediately. Choose your faction, deploy your soldiers, and lead them to victory!
