Cossack style cavalry (not to be confused with Cossacks) played a significant role in the Polish military. Companions, who on the battlefield were in the first rank, were nobles able to afford expensive equipment for themselves and their retainers. In combat retainers were located behind their master and usually were his non-noble servants. At first cossack style units were light cavalry with no protection besides the speed and maneuverability of their horses. In combat they used sabers, bows and musketoons. In the 17th century, these formations used more firearms and chainmail became more common. It would be difficult to consider cossack style cavalry as a uniformed formation with standardized armament. On the battlefield they reinforced the winged hussars with their firepower and they maneuvered to gain a tactical advantage over the enemy.
All units in this set have bases, movement trays and - when required - also spears/pikes and banners. Miniatures are made of thermoplastic, horses are made of plastic. All miniatures require gluing and are unpainted. Contents may vary from picture shown.
