Description
Cuirassiers were the basic cavalry of the Imperial army during the Thirty Years' War and after its conclusion, 9 such regiments were left in service. Some of the regiments remained equipped with helmets, breastplates and backplates. Some soldiers were also armed with arquebuses, but it is difficult to establish whether this practice was widespread. They were armed with a backsword and a pair of pistols. Cuirassiers were able to shoot at their enemies Rusing the caracole, but they were mainly designated for close combat, just like the Swedish or Brandenburg reiters.
