Rus Infantry
- Historical Insight: The Rus, primarily Swedes from Scandinavia, ventured eastward during the 8th to 9th centuries.
The Rus engaged in intense conflicts with neighbouring Slavic tribes and formidable steppe cultures like the Pechenegs, Bulgars, and Khazars. Employed as mercenaries by the Byzantines, they were also formidable adversaries, epitomized in the chronicled Battle of Silistria in 972, where they advanced in an unyielding shield-wall formation with levelled spears. Their naval prowess allowed them to dominate crucial trading routes, amassing wealth that was reflected in their diverse and culturally influenced armaments.
In the Box:
- 48 exquisitely crafted miniatures - 24 armoured and 24 unarmoured figures (4 of each sprue)
- 37 unique head designs - 148 heads in total
- Spears, swords, hand axes, and imposing two-handed axes
- Command figure parts, including horn blowers and standard bearers
Each of the figures are equipped with a unique array of headgear and helmet designs drawing from Slavic, Asiatic and traditional Scandinavian influences.
- Shield Varieties: Accompanying shields range from variously sized round shields to distinctive Slavic rectangular shields. The set provides ample round shields to equip each figure.
- Shield Transfers: We offer specific LMBS transfers designed exclusively for the Rus, which are truly stunning. However, you can also use any of the Viking shield transfers to customize your figures. All transfers can be found on the website and are purchased separately.
- Versatility: Beyond depicting the Rus, these miniatures can double as the famed Varangian Guard of the Byzantine Empire or as Slavic warriors. Combine them with Victrix's existing Viking set for even greater diversity, or transform them into archers using the Victrix Dark Age Archers set and additional Rus-specific components for an array of battlefield roles.
