The Cossacks used captured artillery. At the beginning of the 1648 rebellion the Cossacks had only a few Polish, Muscovite and Turkish guns that were captured during previous raids. With every victory and every captured fortress the number of cannons increased. The largest quantity of artillery was taken from the Polish army at Piławce. After the retreat of the Polish army, about 100 guns of various sizes fell into Cossack hands. From that moment, on Cossack artillery became a significant force. However, the Cossacks lacked trained and experienced artillery crews, and as a result were unable to make full use of the captured arsenal.
