The British followed the same theory as the Germans in massing their armour into a concen-trated strike force. The 1st Armoured Division had more gun-armed tanks than any German Panzer Division, and far better light tanks. Many of these cruiser tanks were the A13 Mk I (also known as the Cruiser Tank Mk III).
The A13 Mk II (Cruiser Tank Mk IV) cruiser tank was an improved version of the A13 Mk I. The A13 Mk II had extra armour fitted to the turret. The A13 is a fast vehicle compared to other British tanks like the A9 and A10, it was arguably the best tank Britain had in 1940.
