SAGA: Galatian Mercenary Warriors on Foot
Description
Contains eight Galatian Mercenaries (Celts) on foot.
A confederation of several Gallic peoples, the Galatians invaded Greece in 281 BC. Destroying anyone who stood against them in their travels, they sacked Delphi before crossing the sea to invade Asia Minor itself, crushing the Lagid army and executing their king, Ptolemy Keraunos. Finally stopped by Antigonus II Gonatas, the Galatians eventually settled in the region that took their name (Galatia) and founded their capital at Ancyra - modern Ankara.
Bringing with them their mastery of metalwork, they quickly and above all became highly desirable mercenaries - the Hellenistic kingdoms even formed Galatian cleruchies. Allies and enemies to all comers, they eventually befriended Rome during the Mithridatic Wars and were finally incorporated into the Roman Empire in 25 BC.
Variously supplied separate weapons, shields and plastic bases.
Supplied unassembled and unpainted.
